Introduction to Automation for Digital Preservation Professionals

This course aims to equip digital preservation professionals with skills for automating repetitive inputs when appraising, accessioning and ingesting large collections of digital objects.

By the end of the course, participants will have the skills to make edits to a configuration file and enter a simple command at the command line that will let them automatically: 1. Clean up ‘garbage’ files 2. Move all images (and other file types) into their own folders 3. Bulk rename files 4. See what is “inside” all files that are older/newer than a certain date 5. Copy files to different folders based on words in filenames.
